Music is a tough subject to grade! This is because most of the weekly grade comes from the students’ participation level in class. If ever you have a question about your child’s grade, please contact me!
1st – 5th Music Grades: Children will receive an E, S, N, or U.
E= Achievement is EXCELLENT (90% or higher average)
· Student shows extra effort/work in music.
· Student shows mastery exceeding grade level expectations
· Student makes accomplishments beyond expectation for grade level
· Student has exceptional grades on written work in Music
S= Achievement is SATISFACTORY (80%-89% average)
· Student shows adequate effort in music
· Student satisfies 70% or more on TEKS and North East ISD Standards
· Student makes accomplishments appropriate for grade level
· Student has average grades on written work in Music
N= Achievement NEEDS IMPROVEMENT (70%-79% average)
· Student shows little or no effort in music
· Student satisfies less than 70% of the TEKS and North East ISD standards
· Student makes accomplishments below expectations for grade level
· Student has below average grades on written work in Music
U= Achievement is UNACCEPTABLE (69% or lower average)
· Student has not come to music class, when at school
· Student has failed to complete or turn in assigned work
If your child is currently showing a U for music class, please come speak with me. I will make it very easy for the children to raise their grades: they just have to show up to class and do the work.

Skills and Conduct
4 Student understanding goes beyond grade level expectation
3 Student exhibits skills independently and consistently
2 Student exhibits skills with minimal guidance. Reinforcement needed.
1 Student is unable to exhibit skill, even with direct guidance. Additional instruction is needed.
Parents--In Parent Portal, music grades are shown as a numeric grade. This is not a true representation of the grading that is done during class. I enter the grades as an alpha grade, and this is how they are shown on the report cards. If you have a concern about your child's grade, please feel free to contact me.
